New York Knicks forward Julius Randle’s season has ended as he prepares to undergo right shoulder surgery.

Despite efforts to rehab his injury and return for the playoffs, ongoing instability in his shoulder has necessitated the surgery, leaving him sidelined for the remainder of the season.

Injury and Rehab Efforts:

Randle has been out of action since dislocating his shoulder on January 27. Despite rigorous rehabilitation efforts, doctors advised against his return due to continued instability in the shoulder.

The decision to undergo surgery comes after two months of rehab and hopes of a postseason comeback.

Recovery Timeline:

Following the surgery, Randle is expected to fully recover and be ready for the start of the 2024-25 season. He will undergo re-evaluation in five months, with a projected return around early September.

This marks the second consecutive offseason that Randle will undergo surgery for an injury sustained during the season.

Impact on the Knicks:

The Knicks, currently 5th in the Eastern Conference with a record of 44-31, have faced challenges due to long-term injuries to key players like Randle, OG Anunoby, and Mitchell Robinson.

Randle’s absence has been felt, as he averaged 24.0 points, 9.2 rebounds, and 5.0 assists in 46 games this season.

Season Outlook:

Despite Randle’s absence, the Knicks still have seven regular-season games remaining and are positioned to finish anywhere from second to eighth in the Eastern Conference.

The team faces a competitive playoff race, with several teams vying for playoff seeding in the season’s final stretch.
