Austin Head broke the Guinness World Record for the number of lunges done in an hour on Monday, completing an impressive 2,825 lunges along the Brooklyn waterfront in DUMBO.
Mental Preparation and Motivation:
“To get my mindset right, I would listen to motivational videos by Tony Robbins and very uplifting and inspiring music,” said Head. His mantra, “I AM POWERFUL, I AM STRONG!!” helped him achieve the world record.
Despite his rigorous training schedule as a trainer in Brooklyn, teaching almost 30 hours a week of exercise classes, Head ensured proper recovery. He utilized weekly IVs, red light therapy, cold plunges, and stretch/massage sessions, which he admitted were a game changer.
Supportive Community and Fundraising Efforts:
Students from Head’s classes, along with his friends and family, including his mother and grandmother who flew in from Texas, cheered him on during the record-setting attempt despite less-than-ideal weather conditions.
Head aimed to raise money to support community athletic programs and green parks for NYC kids to play in, hoping to raise $3 per lunge. In the end, he raised an impressive $7,600 for the LifeTime Foundation, according to Guinness World Records.
